Organic & Natural

Go organic or not? What's all the hullabaloo about? You know Donna and I have been natural, organic food consumers from the very beginning of our marriage. When we first got married we lived on a farm, milked a cow, and grew our own vegetables.

Yes, we really milked a cow. She was our landlord's cow, and he allowed us to care for her and milk her every morning and every night. She was beautiful. A huge Holstein who, every time she gave birth, consistently had twins. So, consequently, she produced a lot of milk. It was so good. We made our own butter in the blender-yes, you can make butter in the blender, yogurt, ice cream, yogurt cream cheese, etc. We drank the milk fresh from the cow, and we are still here.:)

Why am I mentioning all this? The debate about natural and organic and chemically treated foods, raw milk versus homogenized, meat from naturally fed animals raised on a farm that allows animals to graze in fields versus meat from animals kept in confinement and sent to slaughter houses, and so on, has been ongoing for decades: Chemical versus natural, organic. In other words---Man's choice made by what science and commerce dictates, or food raised by the design of God.

Food is our life source for survival. It is just not something to fill a void or satisfy taste buds with adulterated empty calories using high fructose corn syrup and myriads of chemicals per bite. It was meant to nourish our very being. With good natural food, healthy water, exercise, and positive thoughts, our life being can be filled with vibrancy. When we can satisfy our taste buds with unadulterated food that is live, fresh, and in its natural state, taste buds change and recognize what healthy eating should be. Go natural!

Eat healthy and organic especially in the summer weather when fresh foods are abundant. If you don't or can't have a garden where you live, choose to shop at your local farmer's market and roadside stands. In the winter, shop organic and eat simply. Many varieties of squash are abundant and nutrient rich. Don't just use pumpkins for carving at Halloween. Enjoy them at your dinner table.

Make a meal of a watermelon, or fresh, raw vegetables all by themselves when in season. Don't make them a side dish. Savor every mouthful. Enjoy a meal like that with friends, and take time to chew well. You will probably eat less and be satisfied more.

Eat natural,

The following articles were recently posted online. Hope you find them interesting.

NUREMBERG — Can mineral water, which comes up from the depths of the earth and must simply be filled into bottles, be called "organic"?

Absolutely, says the German firm Lammsbräu. It bottles water from its own springs with labels bearing a house-designed "bio" (organic) seal and sells it under the name of BioKristall. And now the Nuremberg Court of Appeals has given its stamp of (legal) approval. Judge Manfred Schwerdtner ruled that the Lammsbräu water was "different from many other mineral waters," and therefore the description of it fulfilled consumer expectation. The word bio in the name did not suggest some form of state licensing was behind the product, although the court ruled that the company seal, in its resemblance to an existing German eco-seal, could confuse consumers and would have to be changed. Read More...

The ideal — as we're reminded and reminded and reminded — is to go organic, to trade processed foods for fresh foods and the supermarket for the farmers' market. Organic foods of all kinds currently represent only about 3% of the total American market, according to the most recent numbers from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), but it's a sector we all should be supporting more.

That sounds like a great idea, but we'll pay a price for it. Organic fruits and vegetables cost 13¢ to 36¢ per lb. more than ordinary produce, though prices fluctuate depending on the particular food and region of the country. Milk certified as hormone- and antibiotic-free costs $6 per gal. on average, compared with $3.50 for ordinary grocery-store milk.
What's more, while grass-fed beef is lower in fat, and milk without chemicals is clearly a good idea, it's less obvious that organic fruits and vegetables have a nutritional edge to speak of. A 2009 study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition led to a firestorm in the food world. It found no difference between organic and conventional produce with regard to all but three of the vitamins and other food components studied, and conventional produce actually squeaked past organic for one of those three.(See the results of a farm vs. supermarket taste test.)

"We draw these bright lines between organic and conventional food," says McWilliams. "But science doesn't draw those lines. They crisscross, and you have people on both sides of the argument cherry-picking their data." For consumers trying to stay healthy and feed their families — and do both on budgets that have become tighter than ever — the ideological back-and-forth does no good at all. What's needed are not arguments but answers.

The Wages of Eating
The biggest reason not to ignore the food purists is that in a lot of ways they're right. Our diet is indeed killing us, and it's killing the planet too. Earlier this month, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta released a study revealing that nearly 27% of Americans are now considered obese (that is, more than 20% above their ideal weight), and in nine states, the obesity rate tops 30%. We eat way too much meat — up to 220 lb. per year for every man, woman and child in the U.S. — and only 14% of us consume our recommended five servings of fruits and vegetables per day. Our processed food is dense with salt and swimming in high-fructose corn syrup, two flavors we can't resist. Currently, enough food is manufactured in the U.S. for every American to consume 3,800 calories per day — we need only 2,350 in a healthy diet — and while some of that gets thrown away, most is gobbled up long before it can go stale on the shelves.Read more...

"Forks Over Knives"-Great New Documentary for Your Health

Take responsibility for your health and start eating more natural plant based foods. This is a great, new documentary that needs to be considered by everyone.

To your health,
Stephen

Who will protect the public? Not our government: The U.S. Department of Agriculture's nutrition pyramid is laden with food that will guarantee millions will suffer ill health. Not the American Dietetic Association, which is controlled by food corporations. Not the insurance industry, which profits by selling plans to the sick. Not the pharmaceutical industry, which pockets billions from chronic illnesses. And not the medical profession, in which doctors and nurses receive virtually no training in nutrition or behavioral modification, and are handsomely rewarded for administrating drugs and employing technical expertise.

What can save America is a plant-based diet, which will help individuals recover their good health, and which in turn will set our health care system right (as well as our economy). However, for this plant-based diet to take hold, the public must be endowed with nutritional literacy, the kind of knowledge that is portrayed in the new documentary, "Forks Over Knives."

"Forks Over Knives" focuses not just on the research that both of us have been engaged in over the last four decades, whether in China and Cornell or at the Cleveland Clinic; it also traces the journey of several Americans as they move from a lifetime of eating mostly animal-based and processed foods to a whole food plant-based diet, and the extraordinary medical results that follow. It is educational, entertaining, and literally life-saving.

Please see "Forks Over Knives." It could transform your life in ways you never thought possible. And it may just help start the seismic revolution in health care this country so badly needs.

What Is the Codex Alimentarius?

So many have asked me what the Codex Alimentarius is, so I am addressing it today. It goes along with the numerous bills regarding foods, supplements, agriculture, and other issues that are being debated in our country's Congress as I write. However, the difference with this is that it involves the issues on a world-wide scale which would ultimately affect the US in many ways.

What are the ramifications of all these laws, rules, and regulations if adopted? The proposed agenda, according to experts such as Dr. Rima Laibow, would be the loss of the individuals right to choose what you will be able to consume, what your food supply contains or is genetically modified with, our unalienable right to live holistically, and to voice our concerns.

Is having access to the natural foods and the supplements important to you? If you are like my wife and I, it is! For 41 years now, we have endeavored to live as naturally as humanly possible in an imperfect world and have used primarily natural organic flour, grains, oils, supplements, produce, and other items and staples purchased from health food stores along with other natural food sources and organic farms.

During all those years, however, there have been many who have have tried to limit access to living holistically. Numerous efforts have had to be initiated by those who treasure the freedom to consume wholesome organic, non-GMO/non-irradiated, non-adulterated foods, and to purchase supplements and herbs to counter those attacks on the ability to live naturally and holistically.

Now, besides the proposed bills in Congress I have discussed in previous posts, there is, also, the Codex Alimentarius, the Grand-daddy of all efforts to thwart access to holistic living, and this is, as I said before, a world-wide goal. The codex proponents now have several bills before Congress designed to overturn and get rid of DSHEA. There are many things that the Codex covers:

According to Dr. Rima Laibow, the most vocal doctor on the subject informing people about it, ...

Organic food governance will be dumbed down to suit the interests of large food producers. Various synthetic chemical additives and processing aids will be allowed, and food labeled as organic may be irradiated. Labeling will permit the use of hidden, non-organic ingredients.

Only what is expressly allowed under Codex will be permitted, and everything else is forbidden. In 1994, the same year DSHEA was signed( The Dietary Substances Health and Education Act was signed into law in 1994 for the purpose of ensuring that safe and appropriately labeled products would remain available to those who wanted to use them), Codex had nutrients declared to be toxic and poisonous. And as poisons, they claimed people must be protected from them through the use of toxicology and risk assessment, under which scientists test small doses on animals until they are able to discern an impact. They then take the first sign of the most minimal impact and divide this amount by 100 to establish a safety margin required from these poisons. This means that the largest dose of any nutrient allowed under Codex is 1/100th of the amount shown to produce the first discernible impact.

According to Dr. Robert Verkerk, founder and director of the Alliance for Natural Health, about 300 dangerous food additives that are mainly synthetic will be allowed under Codex, including aspartame, BHA, BHT, potassium bromate, tartrazine, and more. Dr. Verkerk is particularly concerned that no consideration has been given to potential risks associated with long-term exposure to mixtures of additives.

All together, Codex allows over 3,275 different pesticides, including those that are suspected carcinogens or endocrine disrupters.

Surprisingly, Dr. Laibow found that very few congressional representatives even know about the Codex and the agenda it propses to set forth.

Notes from: Barbara Minton - July 22, 2009 - source NaturalNews- posted at BlackListedNews

It is up to every "citizen" who values their health freedoms to know what is happening locally and world-wide and to keep abreast of the issues. You can make a difference.

Just to show how much of a difference health interest groups can make, just recently-6/6/10, there was a news release that stated:

Big pharma and other powerful groups have suffered a major blow in their efforts to strangle the vitamin industry. A US court has ruled that a manufacturer can make general health claims about its product – a decision that threatens the draconian new laws that will be introduced across Europe next year.

District Court Judge Ellen Huvelle upheld complaints from the Alliance for Natural Health USA and others that the FDA ban went against the First Amendment that allows free speech. She said there was credible scientific evidence to demonstrate that selenium helps protect against cancer, and so the manufacturer should be allowed to include the fact in promoting the product.

The surprise decision is a blow for European laws that will impose similar restrictions on the sale of vitamins in Europe. Under the Nutrition & Health Claims Regulation, manufacturers will not be allowed to make general health claims about their vitamin and dietary supplements.

Rob Verkerk, executive director of ANH International, said: “The verdict in our case against the FDA should be sending shock waves across the Atlantic. If European authorities implement the regulation, it is the European consumer that will be the main loser. Disease prevention using good diets and nutrients will effectively be thrown out of the window.”

This may slow the efforts of Big Interest Groups here a bit; however, this is by no means a time to become complacent. If these issues and concerns are important to you, VOICE THEM.

You can make a difference. Support Dr. Rima Laibow in her efforts to keep people abreast on the Codex and other important topics in the health field. Donations to her foundation are appreciated. Please see the web sites below for her contact information and listen to her radio show on Sunday evenings. The schedule is on the site.

To your health,
Stephen

"FLOW" the Movie: A Must See!!

The following video is an amazing documentary well worth taking the time to watch. May it inspire all of us to be part of the healing for ourselves and our planet!

My wife and I once drank spring water from the hot springs in our own beautiful city. We drank distilled water from our own distiller in years past. We, at one time, thought that they were "healthy" waters. However, never have we experienced the health benefits that we've experienced in the last three years from the water made in our own home from our Enagic Kangen Water device. The water is definitely different, and the benefits are unequaled.

This amazing Japanese water technology transformed our city tap water into the healthiest drinking water on earth! It is beneficial for all people, plants, animals, and it's ecologically sound. This 40 year old technology is affordable and a responsible alternative to everyone with an open heart and open mind. It just makes sense, doesn't it? It is being a part of the healing solutions in our beautiful world, and this very special, eco-friendly water is highly beneficial for all people, animals, plants and our environment: Nothing to cause pollution or adversely affect our health !

Sit back, relax, and watch this "must see" movie. I know that it will at least be thought-provoking, and may encourage viewers to ponder what man is doing to water and the planet we all call home. We need to make changes in our consumer habits for our children's and grandchildren's future.

Great Quote:

Vaccine Manufacturers Exempt from Liability

As reported in the San Fransisco Chronicle on July 17, 2009, the headline read, Legal immunity Set for Swine Flu Vaccine Makers."Vaccine makers and federal officials will be immune from lawsuits that result from any new swine flu vaccine, under a document signed by Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius...

Since the 1980s, the government has protected vaccine makers against lawsuits over the use of childhood vaccines. Instead, a federal court handles claims and decides who will be paid from a special fund...

The document signed by Sebelius last month grants immunity to those making a swine flu vaccine, under the provisions of a 2006 law for public health emergencies. It allows for a compensation fund, if needed." What is actually in place? It should be known.

An article, Now Legal Immunity for Swine flu Vaccine Makers, By F. William Engdahl stated the following:

"... a full year before any reported case of the current alleged H1N1, the major pharmaceutical company, Baxter, filed for a patent for H1N1 vaccine: Baxter Vaccine Patent Application US 2009/0060950 A1. Their application states, “the composition or vaccine comprises more than one antigen…..such as influenza A and influenza B in particular selected from of one or more of the human H1N1, H2N2, H3N2, H5N1, H7N7, H1N2, H9N2, H7N2, H7N3, H10N7 subtypes, of the pig flu H1N1, H1N2, H3N1 and H3N2 subtypes, of the dog or horse flu H7N7, H3N8 subtypes or of the avian H5N1, H7N2, H1N7, H7N3, H13N6, H5N9, H11N6, H3N8, H9N2, H5N2, H4N8, H10N7, H2N2, H8N4, H14N5, H6N5, H12N5 subtypes...

The application, according to Engdahl, further states, “Suitable adjuvants can be selected from mineral gels, aluminium hydroxide, surface active substances, lysolecithin, pluronic polyols, polyanions or oil emulsions such as water in oil or oil in water, or a combination thereof. Of course the selection of the adjuvant depends on the intended use. E.g. toxicity may depend on the destined subject organism and can vary from no toxicity to high toxicity.”
More on this next time.

Take good care of your health. Get enough rest, drink good water (see side-bar for reference and suggestion-important), exercise, get enough sunshine and fresh air, eat HEALTHY by eating primarily from the outside aisles of your grocery store-lots of fresh green and colored vegetables as well as fresh fruit, and organic, if at all possible. Stay away from sodas and designer, flavored water which are highly acidic and puts a burden on the body. Everything on the inner aisles of the grocery stores is usually canned-"dead" food, and most snacks and packaged foods have high-fructose corn syrup on which I have posted before and are most unhealthy for you. Read your labels. If you can't pronounce it, define it, or it's not from a natural source, don't eat it!

Be happy, laugh, and have fun! It's good for you.

To a healthy immune system,
Stephen

Swine Flu

For informational purposes only:

For weeks we have all heard a great deal on the news about the Swine Flu and H1N1. The Swine Flu received a great deal of publicity in 1976, too, and the Swine Flu vaccine was highly recommended at that time during the Ford Presidency.

Of those who got the vaccine, many complained of Guillaine-Barre and other numerous health challenges. Within a few short months, 1.3 billion dollars in claims were filed by victims and families. More on this next time.

I will never suggest that someone should not get the vaccine if it be their choice. Likewise, if someone does not want the vaccine, that should be their choice.

Here is a video by Barbara Loe Fisher of the National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC). I posted on this organization recently.

Have a great day,
Stephen

Is Organic Farming in Jeopardy?

The world is changing. What use to be a world of purity in agriculture, leaving nature to do its own thing year after year, is becoming big business. Big corporations are turning farming into money-making, agricultural-science that is tainted with Frankenstein-like tendencies.

About 30 years ago, there was a movie produced entitled Henderson Monster. It is available on NetFlix. We highly recommend it.

It was not dealing with science-fiction monsters as the title infers. Instead, it was a subtle expose' of how science, even in university labs, was big business and suggested that someday man would "own" genetic codes. Man, corporations, would have the ability to control life, manipulate life,...even own life, if you will. The year the movie was made, the first genes were patented. Fiction became non-fiction over night!

There was once the comment made: He who controls the food, controls the population. It appears to be coming to that. The above paragraph, is now reality. Big corporations, like Monsanto, do "own" the genetic codes of plant seeds. Farmers are finding, that once they start using them, they have to continue using the seeds on infinitum. Oh, and then there's the animal genes in our food-GMO's, and...well, ... that's another post. To elaborate on that at this time would probably make this post at least ten pages.---Another time.

To get back to the subject at hand--There are bills being considered in Congress that are bringing to an urgency something that we all must be informed of if the choice to eat organic foods is of importance to you. They are bills HR. 875 and S. 425 (Click on links to view bills). The bills, like many, incorporate many issues in them, but, even though lengthy, it is of vital concern to those who value their rights to live holistically.

We know first hand that not all those in congress show up for a congressional hearing on a bill or read it in its entirety. In this case, we hope they do. Take the time to read the bill yourself, and read between the lines. Under a heading described as protecting the public health and ensuring the safety of food, it creates a new "Food Safety Administration" within Health and Human Services. Oddly, it doesn't just add regulations to the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) which is also under HHS. The bill applies to all manner of "Food Establishments" and "Food Production Facilities" (the following is an excerpt).

(14) FOOD PRODUCTION FACILITY- The term ‘food production facility’ means any farm, ranch, orchard, vineyard, aquaculture facility, or confined animal-feeding operation. The bill would appear to even cover some fishing boats and potentially your downtown hot dog street vendors. "Transportation" of food also could be covered.

I encourage you to peruse the bill, particularly sections 206 and 207 under title 2, and section 3 that classifies the different definitions. The definitions will explain what the 5 classifications of the food establishments are. In essence, the small time farmer may have to jump giant hoops in the testing of foods, and new types of storage, etc., since it is very broadly-based written. That is the problem. Also, all these new regulations would be very expensive to conform to, and, if that be the case, government loans would be needed, and...you know what's next as a result of that: Conformity without choice. By not conforming and following suit of the new regulations, they will be in violation leading, no doubt, to a great price to be paid. In addition, again, by the way it is written, everything points to the possibility that the small time organic farmer could be penalized for trying to adhere to their God-given right to be holistic in farming.

Refer to the above points. Call your Legislators: 1-202-224-3121. Let's preserve the small organic gardener. We need them! And, if anyone has a small organic garden in their own back yard, it might, may, could, heaven forbid, apply to you.

Have a great, natural living day,
Stephen
