Genetically Engineered Food!
The introduction of “transgenic” species is upon us as of November 19, 2015. They have been working on this over 20 years!
What will be the effect on future generations? We have no idea. It's like playing roulette-no one knows for sure: Great odds for our children, grandchildren, and their children, isn't it? We have no idea of the legacy we will be leaving behind for future generations.
Pesticide companies engineer new proteins into our food crops which enable high doses of their weed killer to be sprayed. There has never been any long range, long term independent safety testing on all this according to experts. Weed killer residues on our foods are growing everyday.
What has been altered in the salmon? A growth hormone-regulating gene from a Pacific Chinook salmon and a promoter from an ocean pout, an eel-like species shown below, was added to the Atlantic's 40,000 genes.
FYI: Do you have a Costco store near you? To my knowledge, the Costco Company has no intention of selling this fish in their stores.:)
Ocean Pout
What would be the purpose for the salmon to be genetically altered like this? Splicing with an eel’s growth hormone gene and an anti-freeze gene from another causes the salmon to mature in half the time at a larger rate than the original salmon. Thus, the fish can go into market place much earlier for more profit than raising unaltered salmon. Should this GMO fish escape into the wild, though, it is speculated by experts that it would/could affect wild salmon populations.

Here are some of the other combinations:
Tomatoes and Winter Flounder
Sugar Beets and Great White Shark
Apple and Shark
Corn and Great White Shark
Soybean and Sea Horse
Spring Wheat and Eel
There are some countries that plan on waiting many years before initiating plans of introducing GMO foods into their mainstream food supply until the long range effects are analyzed from data gathered from the US. So, in other words, we are the guinea pigs of the world. Isn't that a comforting thought?
Over 60 countries around the world require labeling of GMOs. However, in the USA and Canada, GMO items are commonly found in your grocery stores without labeling as such. Are you eating DNA altered food? It is more likely than not that you are!
The "Fish Cars" conducted a cross country tour informing people of the addition of Fish DNA in Corn, Wheat, Apples, Soybeans, Sugar Beets, and Tomatoes. This unique fleet of cars received the attention of a great many people, many of whom had not been aware of how much their food supply had changed. Many people still are unaware of this intrusion into the food supply even though well known MD's, scientists, and researchers have done their best to inform the public.
The video below tells the Fish Car's story. Below that is an infographic of the history of GMO's, as well as, some research.

P.S. This video is from 2013, however, the controversy continues. Again, do your own research. Do research, grow your own food from heirloom seeds or know your local farmers, and always be aware!
