Hi, There are so many reasons to make your own yogurt and it is so easy. We have been making our own for many years using a yogurt maker. We started out with one that had the 4 little containers on a pad years ago. Perhaps you had one similar to it.
We then used a yogurt maker that made 1/2 gallon in a special heating unit for the right temperature when we had more children. And, finally, my wife made it in a huge soup pot wrapped in newspaper and bundled in a blanket while it sat on a heating pad. It was perfect!
Our family grew to be eight, and yogurt milk (yogurt mixed with spring water) was used in place of
regular milk for everything from cereal to baking. The yogurt was freely used on baked potatoes, cornbread, vegetables, on beans, and anything else. It was natural, unsweetened, and very good.:)
You don't want to use store-bought yogurt if it is sold in plastic containers or sweetened. Most yogurt is sold in plastic, and as with anything else sold in plastic, the chemicals leach into the food. Women wonder why they are having hormonal problems: Everything is sold in plastic containers.
If it is sweetened, the sugar used in processing gets rid of the good bacteria quickly. So you think you are eating
healthy food, but it is devoid of all the goodness you expect to find with the health benefits. Should you want to have it sweetened, add your flavorings right before serving. That way you'll have the health benefits from the yogurt.
Now, we have a new way of making it, and that is in a
pressure cooker. We like this one. This particular one makes yogurt without much effort, as well as, other things such a quinoa, black rice, other whole grains and beans, etc.
Make sure it says yogurt maker: That's important. Try it, you'll love it.
Enjoy living naturally!
In health & joy,
Stephen
